Who qualifies?
Medicare covers this when your records show all of the following. Your prescriber's documentation is what establishes each point:
- You have a qualifying wound — one caused by or treated by a surgical procedure, OR a wound that has been debrided (by any method).
- Your treating provider has ordered the dressings as medically necessary.

Check your Medicare coverage in one step, or talk to an intake specialist. We verify your benefits and coordinate the order with your prescriber — no cost or commitment to check.
What Medicare covers
- Primary dressings (applied directly to the wound) and secondary dressings (that hold a primary dressing in place), in medically necessary quantities.
- Not covered without a qualifying wound — for example, a Stage 1 pressure ulcer, a first-degree burn, or a minor skin tear that doesn't need surgical closure or debridement.
- Medicare Part B generally pays 80% of the Medicare-approved amount after you meet the annual Part B deductible; the remaining share is your responsibility (or a secondary plan's, such as Medicaid or a supplement).
Coverage details and amounts are set by CMS and can change each year. We confirm your current, specific coverage before anything is ordered.

What counts as a 'qualifying wound'?+
A wound caused by or treated by a surgical procedure, or a wound after debridement of any kind (surgical, mechanical, chemical, or autolytic). A debrided venous ulcer, for example, can qualify.
Does Medicare cover dressings for a pressure ulcer?+
It depends on the wound. Dressings are covered over a qualifying wound; a Stage 1 pressure ulcer (intact skin) does not qualify on its own. We can check your specific situation.
What do I need to get started?+
Your treating provider's order and documentation that you meet the criteria above. Start the eligibility check or call an agent — we confirm your benefits and coordinate the order and paperwork with your prescriber's office. There's no cost or commitment to check.
